Darya Belsner claimed for compensation after she was knocked off her moped

A moped rider’s High Court victory could spark more than £2billion of claims against ‘no win, no fee’ law firms, it is claimed.

Darya Belsner hired Cam Legal Services to claim for compensation after she was knocked off her moped by a car in February 2016.

She was awarded £1,916.98, but then took the firm to court over the £385.50 fee it deducted.

The 32-year-old initially lost her legal challenge in July 2018.

After an appeal, Mr Justice Lavender at the High Court in Leeds ruled that Cam should have ensured Darya understood the fees and ordered £295.50 be paid to her.

The ruling means solicitors now must be able to prove clients were aware of what costs would to be.

Mark Carlisle, of Checkmylegalfees.com, who acted for Darya, says the case could prompt £2.5billion worth of similar claims.

A Cam Legal Services spokesman says the firm is ‘disappointed’.
